Rumours in theatreland are rife that Disney's latest hit musical 'Newsies' could be heading for London.. Talks of a transfer have
been swirling for a while but it is understood that producers are now actively
seeking a suitable home in the west end.
Based on the 1992 movie of the same name starring Christian Bale and Bill
Pullman, the stage show centres on the exploits of a small group of newspaper boys in 1900s
New York, featuring music by Alan
Menken, with lyrics by Jack
Feldman, and a book by Harvey
Fierstein.
Newsies was nominated for eight Tony Awards, including Best Book, Best Actor
and Best Direction of a Musical, winning two -
Best Score and Best Choreography.
A
production in the west end wouldn't be likely to open until late next year or early 2014, depending
on finding a suitable venue but it could be a new big hit in the capital should the deal go through.
Other Broadwayshow imports that could be on their way over to this side of the pond include 'Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark' and 'Peter And The Starcatcher'.
