British entertainment icon and legend Des O'Connor is set to follow the route down the yellow brick road all the way to the west end at the London Palladium, to the Wizard Of Oz where he will star in the role currently held by Russell Grant.
The star of both stage and TV, who has actually made over 1,200 solo appearances at the historic west end theatre, steps into the Wizard's famous emerald costume from May 22nd, leading the cast for what is being whispered to be the London show's ‘final season'.
Despite Des O'Connor's many appearances at the venue, this be the first time that the British crooner has starred in a musical at the Palladium. He joins a cast that also includes Television talent show Over The Rainbow runner up Sophie Evans who plays Dorothy, Edward Baker-Duly, Martin Callaghan, Paul Keating, and Marianne Benedict.
O'Connor recently celebrated his 80th birthday and has vast experience selling more than 16 million albums over the years, and has had no less than 117 weeks in the top 10 of the UK charts. He is currently probably best known as a TV presenter with his most recent hit series being Today With Des And Mel.
O'Connor will become the third performer to play the Wizard of the Palladium's Emerald City, following Russell Grant and original West End Wizard Michael Crawford, who led the show when it opened in March 2011.
